Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) head Commissioner General Suyudi Ario Seto said universities play a strategic role as the nation’s moral and intellectual safeguard.During a meeting with the rector of Pancasila University in Jakarta on Tuesday (Jan. 13), Suyudi said drug abuse has become increasingly prevalent in university and school environments, underscoring the need for collective action.

“We must ensure they do not become involved in drug networks or even experiment with drugs. Synergy between the BNN and universities is crucial, as early prevention efforts can be carried out,” Suyudi said, according to a statement confirmed in Jakarta on Thursday.

He welcomed Pancasila University’s initiative to establish cooperation with the BNN in efforts to prevent and eradicate drug abuse and illicit trafficking (P4GN), particularly through educational approaches and character-building among young people based on Pancasila values.

The BNN views the strengthening of the Pancasila ideology as an important foundation for building individual and community resilience, especially among the younger generation, against the threat of narcotics.

Through collaboration with higher education institutions, the agency expects to develop concrete programs such as joint research, community outreach, legal education, and sustainable anti-drug prevention campaigns.

Meanwhile, Pancasila University Rector Adnan Hamid said the meeting with the BNN was highly important, noting that young people must be protected from falling into drug abuse, which could undermine the moral fabric of the nation.

He described the BNN as a key institution and said the university needs its guidance and advice for students.

“For that reason, we believe that the younger generation, particularly Pancasila University students, must not only be protected from narcotics but are also expected to develop strong moral values,” Adnan said.

The meeting was held to strengthen synergy and strategic collaboration in education, drug prevention, and the reinforcement of Pancasila ideological values.

It is expected to serve as an initial step toward more concrete and sustainable cooperation between the BNN and Pancasila University in fostering an Indonesian young generation that is principled, has integrity, and is free from drugs.
