Jakarta (ANTARA) - House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Puan Maharani has said that the DPR is taking concrete steps to support sustainable development and the green economy, including by proposing the New and Renewable Energy Bill (RUU EBT).
During a plenary meeting at the opening of the Plenary Meeting Session I for 2022–2023 at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, on Tuesday, Maharani explained that in the Parliamentary 20 (P20) meeting this year, one of the priority issues will be the acceleration of sustainable development and the green economy.
According to the G20’s official website, P20 is a forum for parliamentary speakers and people's representatives from G20 countries, which aims to bring a parliamentary dimension to global governance and increase political support for international commitments.
Under Indonesia's G20 Presidency, the P20 Summit will be held on October 6–7, 2022. "In supporting sustainable development and the green economy, the DPR has taken concrete steps, namely by proposing the New and Renewable Energy Bill as an initiative from the DPR and starting to use solar cells to meet 25 percent of the electricity needs in the DPR building," Maharani said.
Besides sustainable development, the DPR will also accord special attention to food security issues, she informed. "Joint commitment is needed so that each country can build its food sovereignty without being hindered by various obstacles, including issues that are often associated with free trade," she remarked.

The results of the P20 meeting, she said, are expected to help establish a mutual agreement, which could encourage real action in responding to various global problems. The DPR will also encourage the parliaments of P20 member countries to continue to cooperate. That way, it can achieve the expected target through Indonesia's leadership of the P20.
