Soft skills needed in students' talent development: official

Makassar, S Sulawesi (ANTARA) - The Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Ministry stated that students' talent development should not only focus on the academic aspect but also on the soft skills aspect deemed essential in facing Golden Indonesia 2045.

In a workshop on student talent development strategies towards Golden Indonesia 2045 held at Hasanuddin University (Unhas) here on Saturday, the ministry's expert staff, Tatang Muttaqin, underlined several factors that shape education.

According to Muttaqin, one of the factors is the future skills and jobs that are influenced by technological development and automation.

"We have to be able to develop the most effective and efficient way to train human resources to face that challenge," he emphasized.

Meanwhile, he drew attention to the Merdeka Belajar (Freedom in Learning) priority program and its relation to improving education quality in Indonesia.

At the event, he elaborated on Merdeka Belajar's positive impact on education quality, which the world has also recognized.

The program has cut the waiting time for graduation in universities and increased the salaries of graduates.

He highlighted that Indonesia rose 14 places in the Global Talent Competitiveness Index, ranking second among other countries in the world.

Meanwhile, Unhas' vice rector, Muhammad Ruslin, expressed the university's commitment to developing students' talents with the presence of the Sub-Directorate of Student Achievement and Talent Development.

"We want to see Unhas students focus on developing their skills and abilities so that they can become future leaders who can contribute to the nation's progress and be able to compete at the global level," he said.

The workshop aimed at equipping the Unhas academic community with the strategies and insights in developing their potential so they can contribute to realizing the vision of Golden Indonesia, or Indonesia as an advanced country by 2045.
