Jakarta (ANTARA) - The media successfully showcased Indonesia as a peaceful nation during Pope Francis' visit to Jakarta, according to a communication official.

Director General of Public Information and Communication, Prabu Revolusi, said that positive news strengthened Indonesia's image as a tolerant and harmonious country despite its people belonging to diverse cultural and religious backgrounds.

"We see that the media has succeeded in conveying the key messages of the visit, namely peace and unity between religious communities," he said. "This is a moment for Indonesians to show the world that differences are not a barrier but a wealth that strengthens the nation."

During Pope Francis' visit to Indonesia, positive news about tolerance between religious communities was relayed not only by national media but also by international news channels and on social media.

Revolusi said that this reflects one of the pillars of digital literacy, namely digital ethics. He added that Indonesia's digital ethics are improving and showing greater maturity amid increased access to digital spaces.

"The conversations on social media became a harmonious space where Indonesians showed respect and unity in welcoming Pope Francis. This demonstrated our society's digital maturity, where technology is used to strengthen brotherhood rather than to divide," he explained.

He then encouraged the media and citizens to maintain peace and unity so that Indonesia's image as a tolerant and peace-loving nation can continue to be cemented.

"Let's keep the spirit of maintaining diversity as a national strength. Indonesia is known for its hospitality, and that is reflected in the way we welcome guests from around the world, such as Pope Francis," he added.
