Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has emphasized that the program for revitalizing educational units is not a short-term political project, but designed to remain sustainable over the long term.Director general of early childhood, primary, and secondary education at the ministry, Gogot Suharwoto, said that his office is continuing to update data on the number of schools that need to be revitalized annually to ensure the process remains sustainable.

“This revitalization program is ongoing and was launched in 2024. Therefore, the data we are using for school revitalization in 2025 is the 2024 proposed data,” he informed in Jakarta on Monday.

“Furthermore, for school revitalization in 2026, we will use the 2025 proposed data, which we have already proposed. So, this will be sustainable,” he said.

He affirmed that his office will strive to continue the revitalization program until all schools have proper buildings and complete facilities to support teaching and learning activities.

He said that the program needs to be sustainable over the long term to meet the basic needs of educational units across Indonesia.

This year, the revitalization will adopt a self-managed school mechanism and focus on strengthening governance and community participation.

He expressed the hope that the mechanism will improve budget efficiency, saying the revitalization is focused on school needs, and the school and the surrounding community will need to take ownership of the construction process.

“Because everyone is involved, the school revitalization involves their support, and the school is utilized by them, so it becomes a matter of ownership. This is the result of what they have done so far,” he said.

“The same goes for maintenance. Because they will build from scratch, they will be more careful with their upkeep,” he added.
