Demak, Central Java (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education is targeting the revitalization of 71,000 schools across Indonesia in 2026 as part of the government’s continued efforts to improve the quality of national education.
“In the 2026 State Budget, more than Rp14 trillion (around US$838.1 million) has been allocated for 11,000 schools. However, after discussions, the president promised to increase the number to 60,000 additional schools this year,” Primary and Secondary Education Minister Abdul Mu'ti said.
Speaking to the press in Demak, Central Java, on Saturday, he explained that the policy reflects President Prabowo Subianto’s commitment to improving education quality, in line with the fourth Asta Cita mission, which focuses on strengthening human resources through quality education.
Previously, in 2025, the school revitalization program targeted 16,175 schools with a total budget of Rp16.9 trillion.

Mu'ti explained that the top priority for the 2026 revitalization program remains the construction and repair of school buildings. Nationally, more than 100,000 schools still require intervention in terms of physical infrastructure.
“The 2026 allocation still focuses on building construction because many schools continue to require construction or physical repairs. Over the past few years, there has not been massive school construction, so we need to accelerate these efforts,” he said.

The minister expressed optimism that the school revitalization program can be completed before 2029, in line with the government’s target.
In addition to school building revitalization, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education is also distributing interactive flat panels (IFPs) to 288,186 educational institutions across Indonesia to enhance learning quality.
