Jakarta (ANTARA) - Culture Minister Fadli Zon views comedy as a neutral platform for the public to voice criticism of the government while entertaining audiences."Comedy is a neutral and globally significant platform," Fadli Zon said during an interview with ANTARA in Jakarta on Wednesday.
He explained that criticism through comedy can be delivered in the form of satire or entertainment content, while also serving as a tool to promote messages to a wider audience.
He emphasized that such criticism and promotion must be expressed politely, respectfully, and without offending others.
As a form of support for long-standing comedians, the Ministry of Culture has designated September 27 as National Comedy Day through a ministerial decree.

The date coincides with the birthday of Bing Slamet, a figure known as a comedian, singer, musician, and actor who has inspired generations of Indonesian comedy artists.
"We hope this commemoration becomes a milestone, recognizing comedy as an integral part of the nation’s cultural journey," Fadli Zon added.
He also highlighted the important role of comedians as major contributors to the development of Indonesia’s culture.

The establishment of National Comedy Day is expected to align with the ongoing Anugerah Komedi Indonesia (ANUKOM), which serves as an annual platform to honor comedians.
Fadli Zon expressed hope that prominent figures and comedy associations will inspire the emergence of a new generation of Indonesian comedians, while appreciating the contributions of those who have entertained the public and advanced the national comedy scene.
