Jakarta (ANTARA) - Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Indonesia Mohammad Boroujerdi urged the D8 member states to provide economic support for Palestine and impose sanctions on the occupiers who attack its people.
"If we are going to help the Palestinian people, we must help them with economic aid as well as impose economic sanctions on the occupiers who are attacking the suppressed people of Palestine," said the Ambassador in a special interview with ANTARA, here on Friday. He made the statement in response to a question about possible efforts that could be made by D8 member states to provide meaningful support for the Palestinian struggle.
This was also conveyed ahead of the D8 Summit, where Indonesia, which is hosting this year's summit, will welcome leaders from D8 member countries, namely Iran, Turkey, Malaysia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Egypt, Nigeria, and Azerbaijan, at the summit to be held in April.
Regarding the crisis in Palestine, Boroujerdi said he did not believe that recognizing the Zionist regime of Israel as a state could truly help bring peace to the Palestinian people.
He emphasized that currently more than 75 thousand people have died as a result of the Israeli occupation, most of whom are children and women.
The Israeli attack is a blatant violation of the human rights of the Palestinian people, which is still ongoing and witnessed by the international community.
For this reason, he said the most concrete assistance that can be provided to the Palestinian people is economic assistance and the imposition of sanctions on Israel and other countries that have supported it.

"If any country wants to help Palestine, if we decide about the peace, because one side of this peace imagination does not believe in any kind of peace, so it is not going to happen," he said.
"So, if you want any kind of peace to happen in the area, you must put pressure on the Zionist regime of Israel to stop occupying Palestinian lands, to stop attacking the lands, and to stop just attacking other countries, other neighboring countries," he stressed.
To achieve peace for the Palestinian people, efforts need to be made to stop double standards in implementing democratic and human rights values.

"Why is democracy and human rights, and this kind of world good for the rest of the world, but not for Palestine? We must pass from this kind of double standard. If democracy is good, it is also good for the people of Palestine," he continued.
He argued that there needs to be support for the Palestinian people to choose and determine their own fate, regardless of their religious background and race.
"All the Palestinians, including all the religions, come together, just participate in the general election and whatever they choose, everybody including us, we are going to accept that," he added.
Iran believes that the only way to help the Palestinian people is to just put away the double standards and go for real democracy and real caring for human rights in that area.
