Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) and the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries have established inclusive and sustainable blue economy cooperation to expedite stunting reduction.

The cooperation was marked by the signing of a pact at the office of the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries in Jakarta on Monday.

Acting BKKBN head Sundoyo said that the cooperation was established to reduce stunting cases and create quality human resources to achieve the 2045 Golden Indonesia vision.

"Hopefully, BKKBN, as the head of the implementation committee of stunting reduction acceleration, can continue to cooperate with relevant parties, especially the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries," he said in a statement released by his office on Tuesday.

He emphasized that efforts to reduce stunting cases do not only focus on infants and children but also on the nutrition of their parents or prospective parents, which also needs to be improved.

One of the steps to improve the nutrition of prospective parents, he said, could be to get them used to eating fish, which is part of Indonesia's natural resource wealth.

Under the cooperation, the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries and BKKBN will encourage fish consumption among families residing in coastal areas to prevent stunting and the implementation of gender mainstreaming programs.

Marine Affairs and Fisheries Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono said that collaboration with relevant parties, such as the BKKBN, can support efforts to reach all islands in Indonesia.

"The ministry will not be able to work alone because Indonesia has a vast area," he added.
