Jakarta (ANTARA) - The local organizing committee (LOC) for the 2023 Federation Internationale de Basketball (FIBA) Basketball World Cup has revitalized two basketball courts in the area of Lapangan Banteng Park, Jakarta, under the “Revamp My Court” legacy program.
The courts were selected for the program because they are of historical value and iconic, chairperson of the LOC for the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup, Budisatrio Djiwandono, said at a press conference at Lapangan Banteng on Saturday.
“In addition, they are located at the center of Jakarta, thus they are easy to be accessed by the public,” he added. “Revamp My Court” is a revitalization program for basketball courts located in host cities. It is being conducted as a series of pre-events ahead of the first-ever FIBA Basketball World Cup co-hosted by three countries—Japan, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
The tournament will take place from August 25 to September 10, 2023. Djiwandono said he expects the revitalization program to encourage the development of potential basketball players who can make Indonesia proud in international events. "We also hope that the achievements of our basketball teams, both men's and women's, will continue to improve in the international events," he added.
Chairperson of the joint management committee of the 2023 FIBA World Cup, Cahyadi Wanda, said that the revitalization program aims to support all community groups to play and enjoy basketball matches. The implementation of “Revamp My Court” is Indonesia's legacy as the host of this year's FIBA Basketball World Cup, he added.
“Certainly, there must be a legacy for Jakarta, which can be seen in the designs created, which have been extraordinarily painted (on the court). The theme (of the revitalization) is ‘Win for All,’” he added.

The LOC has been revitalizing basketball courts since April 17 by painting basketball poles and the floors of the courts, repairing toilet facilities, as well as adding a canopy to the seats at the side of the courts. An exhibition match was held at the inauguration of “Revamp My Court.” The event was also attended by the women's basketball national team, which recently bagged a gold medal at the 2023 Cambodian SEA Games.
