Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) reminded Bank Indonesia (BI) and the Financial Services Authority (OJK) on Thursday to have layered data backup to provide a sense of safety to the public as users while making transactions.

"Let us not be unprepared, like not having a layered data backup," Jokowi said. "I urge this so that users, or the people, can feel safe in doing transactions."

He made this statement while attending the opening ceremony of the 2024 Indonesia Digital Financial Economy Festival and the Indonesian Creative Works (FEKDI x KKI) at JCC Senayan.

Jokowi underscored the importance of data security amid the rapid advancements in technology. He expressed hope that the recent hacking incident of the Temporary National Data Center (PDNS) would be an eye-opener and a lesson for all on improving data security.

"I hope that can become a lesson that benefits the future," he stated.

In addition to pressing for enhancing data security, he also called on the central bank and the OJK to increase protection in the field of the digital economy, considering that there are 64 million micro, small, and medium enterprises in Indonesia. He cautioned that low financial literacy makes the public vulnerable to digital-based fraud and crimes.

"Hence, prepare the consumers' protection system and ensure the safety of their data," Jokowi emphasized.
