Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Russian government has expressed interest in adding more direct flights from Moscow to Indonesia, according to Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto.

He said the interest was conveyed by Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister, Denis Manturov, during a meeting with President Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta on Tuesday.

“Russia also hopes to increase the number of aircraft, and they asked which destinations in Indonesia would be suitable for direct flights from Moscow,” Hartarto stated.

In addition, Russia expressed a desire to strengthen cooperation in inter-country financial systems, specifically by creating a mechanism to make transactions easier for Russian tourists in Indonesia.

“They are looking for a mutually agreed mechanism to simplify transactions for tourists,” Hartarto said.

Earlier, during the Indonesia-Russia Business Forum held in Jakarta on Monday, he proposed opening a direct flight route between Moscow and Jakarta.

The proposal is part of broader efforts to enhance bilateral relations, particularly in the fields of economy and tourism.

The establishment of the route is expected to support business activities in both countries, including cooperation between the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) and its Russian partners.

The initiative also aims to encourage people-to-people exchanges, which are seen as important for strengthening ties between the two nations.

The plan is targeted for implementation ahead of an upcoming visit by an Indonesian government delegation to Moscow, scheduled for June this year.
