Pekanbaru, Riau (ANTARA) - Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka has said that he is still awaiting President Prabowo Subianto’s decision on his potential assignment to Papua or Nusantara capital city in East Kalimantan to support development programs.

He affirmed that, as an aide to President Prabowo, he is ready to work from anywhere to help advance government initiatives and goals.

“In essence, I, as an aide to the President, stand ready to be stationed anywhere, including in Papua and Nusantara. I am awaiting an instruction from the President,” he told the press during a visit to Pekanbaru city, Riau, on Monday.

He made the statement at a junior high school built under the tuition-free Sekolah Rakyat (People’s Schools) program, in response to House of Representatives (DPR) factions suggesting that he work out of Nusantara.

Meanwhile, previous discussions indicated that the Vice President could be sent to Papua to spearhead development in Indonesia’s easternmost region, as mandated by the Law on Special Autonomy for Papua.

The former mayor of Solo affirmed that it would not be a problem for him to work from regions far from Jakarta.

“I have emphasized that I can work from anywhere because I have spent most of my time in the field to ensure that the President’s programs and vision are implemented properly,” he said.

He expressed a similar sentiment earlier, saying that he is ready to work out of Papua to continue the efforts of the 13th vice president Ma’ruf Amin, who frequently visited the region and even set up camp there during his term.

Speaking in Klaten district, Central Java, on July 9, 2025, Gibran pointed out that he is familiar with Papua and its issues, noting that the Vice Presidential Secretariat has delivered school supplies and reviewed preparations for the Free Nutritious Meals program in the region.
