Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Religious Affairs has provided Rp596 million (approximately US$35,500) in aid to support the recovery of madrasahs (Islamic schools), teachers, and students affected by a landslide and flooding in Cisarua Sub-district, West Bandung, West Java.

Religious Affairs Minister Nasaruddin Umar said in a statement in Jakarta on Sunday that madrasahs play a strategic role not only as educational institutions but also as centers for community service and humanitarian response.

He emphasized that restoring madrasahs and safeguarding the welfare of teachers must be a shared priority to ensure that teaching and learning activities can resume normally.

“Madrasahs have contributed greatly. Even during emergencies, they remain a vital part of humanitarian efforts. Therefore, the state must ensure that madrasahs and their teachers can recover,” the minister said.

The assistance includes Rp300 million in rehabilitation funds to repair the severely damaged homes of madrasah teachers.
