Jakarta (ANTARA) - Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono confirmed his ministry’s Rp576.8-billion (US$40.3-billion) allocation to enhance access roads and facilities to Mandalika Circuit, West Nusa Tenggara, scheduled to host the 2022 MotoGP international championship.

"The ministry has allocated Rp576.8 billion for beautification of the Mandalika area to welcome the MotoGP international championship event," Hadimuljono stated at the meeting with House of Representatives' (DPR RI's) Commission V in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The budget will be disbursed for construction of the second stage of the bypass road connecting Lombok International Airport to the Mandalika region and to enhance the Kuta-Keruak road, he noted.

Budget for beautification of the Mandalika area corridor and construction of a flood control facility for the region would also be disbursed from the allocated fund, the minister noted.

Hadimuljono affirmed that the aesthetic appeal should be prioritised in the beautification of the Lombok International Airport-Mandalika region bypass road expected to be an environmentally friendly and exemplary national road.

Trees and shrubs, including bougainvillaea, golden trumpet, and angsana, have been planted for the beautification project to the bypass road, he remarked.

Apart from the tree and shrub planting activity, the authority is also improving road access by enhancing the frontage road, road shoulder, and road drainage, the minister added.

Earlier, the 17.3-km bypass road connecting the Lombok International Airport to the Mandalika region had been completed prior to the first international competition hosted at the Mandalika Circuit, the World Superbike championship, in November 2021, Hadimuljono noted.

The beautification and road improvement projects are organised by the ministry's National Road Authority in West Nusa Tenggara and the Directorate General of Highways, he added.
