Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian private company Trinitan Green Energy Metals (TGEM) announced it is ramping up its Step Temperature Acid Leach (STAL) facility in Bogor, West Java, to reach annual production of 3,200 tons of mixed hydroxide precipitate (MHP) this year.
TGEM sets goal to produce 3,200 tons
The target of producing 3,200 tons of MHP, a crucial component in battery manufacturing, annually by the end of the third quarter of 2024 aims to advance its exports to Western markets, according to its press statement received here on Monday.
It said the facility represents its first commercial production site for MHP, adding that it provides sustainable nickel solutions, especially to Western markets.
Head of TGEM's Project Development & Management, Rama A. Panjaitan, highlighted the company's strategic positioning in the global nickel supply chain, especially within Western markets.
"TGEM remains dedicated to supplying Western markets with Class 1 nickel products that are both sustainable and environmentally friendly," he noted in the statement.
Panjaitan affirmed that the commitment was demonstrated in September 2023 when the company commenced commercial operations and completed its inaugural shipment of MHP to South Korea.
"The shipment was the result of applying TGEM’s proprietary Step Temperature Acid Leach (STAL) technology, which is central to our strategy to meet the stringent standards of Western markets," he remarked.
Looking ahead, he said, TGEM is also poised to boost its production capabilities through several groundbreaking projects, including the STAL One Ecopark, to advance the next phase of sustainable nickel production in Indonesia.
Panjaitan highlighted that in July 2024, Indonesia took a significant step towards becoming a global leader in the electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem by inaugurating Southeast Asia's largest battery cell factory in Karawang, West Java, in partnership with South Korea.

President Joko Widodo emphasized Indonesia's abundant natural resources and commitment to downstream processing as pivotal elements in positioning the country at the forefront of the global EV supply chain.
Panjaitan claimed that the company's activities align with this national vision, especially through the advancement of its STAL technology, which has the potential to revolutionize Class 1 nickel production.
