Govt focuses on completing the IKN government center development

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) revealed that the development of the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) in East Kalimantan will continue with a focus on completing the government center.AHY stated that the decision was a follow-up to President Prabowo Subianto’s direction, which emphasized the importance of completing the government center as a priority in the development of IKN.

"Many people have asked whether the IKN will be continued? President Prabowo has clearly stated that the development of IKN will continue. However, it will be more focused on completing the government center," said AHY during the 2024 National Leadership Meeting of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) in Jakarta on Sunday.

Minister conveyed that the focus of the government center development consist of executive, legislative, and judicial facilities.

"So, (the completion of the development) IKN will be more focused on the central government, both executive, legislative, and judicial. So, that is what we will focus on first," he said.

According to him, although the development of IKN will continue, the limited budget becomes a major challenge. Therefore, the government is working to attract investments from domestic and foreign sources to fund various infrastructure projects, including the IKN development.

"Because the budget must also be distributed to other sectors. This is always limited by the limitations of our fiscal capacity, which is why we are working to attract investment from various sources, both domestic and foreign, for different infrastructure projects," he explained.

He also mentioned that his office will work together with the IKN Authority to refine the planning of the development of the government center, including facilities for the legislative and judicial in IKN.

"We will work together and coordinate closely with the IKN Authority, Mr. Basuki (Head of IKN Authority), for example, who is also working with us to refine the planning for the development of the legislative center for parliament and also for the judiciary," he said.
