Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government strongly condemns sexual violence in the workplace and will carry out efforts to prevent it, Deputy Minister of Manpower Immanuel Ebenezer Gerungan has stressed.
"The government firmly opposes sexual violence, not only the one that happens against women, but also those against men," he said here on Tuesday.
He emphasized his support for labor unions to continue their fight against acts of sexual violence in the workplace.
Workers, he said, should not be afraid to fight for their rights to achieve their goals.
"The government supports the International Labor Organization (ILO) Convention No. 190, which condemns sexual violence in the workplace. Therefore, workers, you should not be afraid to fight for this," he added.
Earlier, Secretary General of the Federation of Indonesian Labour Union (GSBI) Emilia Yanti MD Siahaan advised the government to ratify ILO Convention 190 because it concerns human rights.

The GSBI is a federation of 13 labor unions, including unions of miners as well as workers in the plantation, metal, electronics, food and beverage, power plant, garment, textiles, and shoe industries.
The ILO Convention or KILO 190 was ratified in 2019, emphasizing the elimination of violence and harassment in the working world. Indonesia was among the countries that agreed to the convention during the ILO session, but, until now, it has not ratified it.

Deputy Minister Gerungan stressed that sexual violence in the workplace, or anywhere else, is a crime against humanity.
"This is not only about the fate of all workers, but also everyone, including young people," he said.
He reminded that the government will always side with workers. The government is anti-sexual violence and condemns companies that do not comply with labor rights.
