Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government will build adaptive and resilient infrastructure to protect against the impact of natural disasters like earthquakes, including the risks of megathrust events, Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono has assured.
At a press conference following a limited meeting on Wednesday, he emphasized the importance of strong infrastructure in mitigating the effects of natural disasters, given Indonesia's location within the Pacific Ring of Fire.
The minister acknowledged Indonesia's vulnerability to various natural disasters, particularly earthquakes, which can significantly impact infrastructure.
"Therefore, infrastructure must be both responsive and adaptive. As a nation situated within the Ring of Fire, Indonesia is inherently susceptible to a range of natural disasters. We must be prepared to face these challenges," he stated.

This statement was made in response to a reporter's inquiry regarding the preparedness of Indonesian infrastructure for a potential megathrust event.
He highlighted the critical role of infrastructure readiness in ensuring the sustainability of development, considering the potential for disasters to disrupt various aspects of people's lives.

The minister reiterated the government's commitment to constructing more advanced infrastructure across all regions while simultaneously maintaining a high level of preparedness for unexpected natural disasters.
"We have consistently undertaken efforts in the past, incorporating discussions on enhancing infrastructure development in various regions to ensure greater resilience," he noted.
Furthermore, he emphasized the government's dedication to pursuing technological innovations to create infrastructure that is more responsive to challenges and facilitates faster recovery in the event of natural disasters.
