Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas affirmed that State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) are strategic national assets that play a crucial role in national economic development.

"SOEs must continue to transform into professional, efficient, and globally competitive businesses by restructuring, reorganizing, consolidating, and refocusing to become leaner and more focused and provide added value," Agtas remarked during a working meeting at the Parliament Complex here on Saturday.

This initiative aligns with the government's vision and policy direction for SOEs, aimed at fostering a more advanced and globally competitive Indonesia. Minister Agtas also underscored the need for SOEs to practice good corporate governance, develop high-quality human resources with integrity and a global outlook, and foster continuous innovation and technological mastery to boost productivity.

With the launch of the eight "Astacita" missions by President Prabowo Subianto, the government is dedicated to advancing the downstream processing of natural resources to increase the added value of the national economy.

Agtas expressed optimism that SOEs will spearhead the development of industries foused on processing natural resources such as nickel, bauxite, and copper.

"This will help strengthen the supply chain for strategic industries like renewable energy and electric vehicles while also increasing domestic components and reducing reliance on imports to boost economic independence," he elaborated.

In addition to generating added value through downstreaming, SOE companies are expected to also serve as agents of national development.

This can be achieved by improving quality and equitable connectivity across Indonesia, enhancing national energy and food security, and empowering micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) that contribute to state revenue through taxes and dividends.

Hence, Agtas stated that the government supports further discussions on the bill on the Third Amendment to Law Number 19 of 2003 concerning SOEs in parliament.
