Pariaman, W Sumatra (ANTARA) - Prosecutors at West Sumatra’s Pariaman District Court have demanded the death sentence for a 27-year-old man accused of raping and killing an 18-year-old snack seller in September 2024, saying they have enough evidence for a conviction.

During a court hearing here on Tuesday, Bagus Priyonggo, a prosecutor from the Pariaman Prosecutor’s Office, said the defendant, Indra Septiarman, who has previous convictions for drug abuse, sexual assault, and theft, killed Nia Kurnia Sari in an inhumane manner.

“We seek the death penalty for the defendant,” Priyonggo said.

As reported earlier, Septiarman allegedly raped Sari, who sold fried snacks (gorengan) for a living, in 2x11 Kayu Tanam sub-district, Padang Pariaman district, West Sumatra, on September 6, 2024. He then buried her body, without clothes, on a farm.

Local residents found Sari’s body on September 8, 2024, two days after she was reported to have gone missing while selling gorengan. The Padang Pariaman police then formed a team to look for the suspect.

After an intensive 11-day manhunt, the police arrested Septiarman, who was found hiding in the attic of a house in the Padang Kabau neighborhood, on September 19, 2024.
