Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Home Affairs Muhammad Tito Karnavian has called on regional governments to accelerate implementation of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program — a national strategic initiative coordinated by the National Nutrition Agency (BGN).In a virtual meeting on Friday, he urged all regional leaders to form task forces and coordinate closely with the BGN to ensure smooth and effective rollout of the program nationwide.Karnavian noted that some regions have already formed MBG task forces, typically chaired by their district secretaries.
He also underscored the wide-reaching benefits of the program. In addition to improving child nutrition, it is expected to create jobs — such as cooks in program kitchens — and boost regional economies by strengthening local food supply chains.

"It can encourage economic growth at both regional and national levels because the offtakers and buyers are clear, and a budget has been prepared," he said.
He asked regional heads to immediately implement the agreed-upon steps and announced that a follow-up meeting would be held soon.

Launched on January 6, the MBG program is a flagship initiative of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka for their 2024–2029 term.
The program targets improved nutrition for children under five, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and students up to high school level.
