President Prabowo inspects MBG food safety at Palmerah kitchen

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto conducted a hygiene and food safety inspection at a nutrition fulfillment service unit (SPPG) producing meals for the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program in Palmerah, Jakarta, on Tuesday.He visited the facility, which is one of more than 29,000 established nationwide, to ensure that production and distribution processes comply with government safety and quality standards.

National Nutrition Agency (BGN) Head Dadan Hindayana welcomed the president upon arriving at the SPPG at 9:30 a.m. local time.

Prabowo then received a report from Hindayana and listened to explanations from the SPPG chief, who walked him to a greenhouse.

The Palmerah SPPG operates the greenhouse to produce food ingredients required for MBG menus, demonstrating a move toward food self-sufficiency. In its agriculture compartment, staff cultivate various vegetables using hydroponic models and biofloc technology.

Supported by the National Police (Polri), the MBG kitchen harvested about 80 kilograms of mustard greens and 560 catfish last month.

During the visit, President Prabowo also reviewed production processes in the cooking area wearing a hair net and gloves, which are mandatory to maintain hygiene and cleanliness.

He observed the entire process firsthand, from raw ingredient preparations and cooking methods to packaging and distribution for program beneficiaries, including schoolchildren, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and children under five.

The Presidential Secretariat noted in a press release that Prabowo’s SPPG visit reflected the government’s commitment to optimal implementation of the national priority program.

“Through supporting facilities and sound management, the government hopes that the nutrition fulfillment program can optimally contribute to enhanced human resource quality for Indonesia,” the release stated.

After inspecting the Palmerah SPPG, Prabowo visited nearby Public Middle School 111 Jakarta in Kemanggisan to directly view how students receive and enjoy MBG menus.
