Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia is aiming to win one gold, two silver, and three bronze medals at the 2024 Paris Paralympics.
Reda Manthovani, Chef de Mission of the Indonesian contingent, outlined this ambitious goal during a recent visit to the Paralympic Training Center in Karanganyar, Central Java, on Thursday. He emphasized that the target was based on a thorough evaluation of the athletes' readiness and the overall support system.
"We believe with focused preparation and the dedication of our athletes, officials, and stakeholders, we can achieve this target," Manthovani noted in a statement on Friday.
The 35 athletes selected to represent Indonesia have undergone rigorous training in Solo City since November 2023. This represents a significant increase from 23 Indonesian athletes participating in the previous Paralympics, demonstrating Indonesia's growing commitment to Paralympic sports.
Minister of Youth and Sports Dito Ariotedjo expressed optimism about the team's prospects, highlighting NPC's efforts to expand talent identification and coaching.

Indonesia has a growing presence at the Summer Paralympic Games. While not as dominant as some other nations, the country has recently achieved notable successes, especially in badminton and powerlifting.
Making its debut in the 1976 Summer Paralympics in Toronto, Indonesia won 27 Paralympic medals, comprising six gold, seven silver, and 14 bronze medals. Leani Ratri Oktila has emerged as a prominent figure in Indonesian Paralympic badminton, winning two gold medals in Tokyo 2020.
