PUIC meet discusses Islamophobia,diplomatic methods to end conflicts

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Islamophobia was one of the topics that came up for discussion during the 19th Session of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) Conference in Jakarta.This was confirmed by chair of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) of the House of Representatives (DPR), Mardani Ali Sera, in Jakarta on Tuesday.

According to Sera, the issue of Islamophobia is not solely concerned with the victimization of Muslims, but also wrong mindsets.

"It is the mindset that places others as inferior, weaker, worse; that is what must be fixed," he expounded.

In addition, he said that the conference discussed several other issues related to Muslims, including the conflict between India and Pakistan and the one between the Uyghur Muslim minority ethnic group and the Chinese government in China's Xinjiang region.

He further said that conflicts involving the Moro Muslim groups in southern Philippines and the Boko Haram insurgency in Nigeria were also raised at the conference.

He disclosed that the discussions emphasized using a diplomatic approach to resolve the conflicts with peace.

"We agreed that we will prioritize a diplomatic approach," he said.

Sera informed that the issues related to Palestine and Muslim minorities were included in the discussion of the political and international relations committee at the conference on Tuesday.

"For Palestine, there were three issues: the condition of Palestine, about aid to Palestine, and also the surrounding countries, such as Jordan, Egypt, and Lebanon, which are also affected. There were also 10 resolutions on minorities," he expounded.

He said that all of these issues were discussed carefully, and a road map regarding the diplomatic steps that must be taken with the spirit of solidarity and humanity was created.
