Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), Lestari Moerdijat, has urged the government to refer to the 1945 Constitutional mandate to protect national security and promote global peace in responding to conflicts between countries.“In responding to several conflicts that currently exist, our Constitution has mandated the government to protect the whole Indonesian nation,” she said in a statement received here on Wednesday

Moerdijat conveyed this in her written remarks at an online discussion on the Israel-Iran war on Wednesday.

She stressed that the response to conflicts must prioritize global peace.

“The 1945 Constitution also emphasizes that Indonesia must participate in global peace based on freedom, perpetual peace, and social justice,” she said.

The MPR deputy speaker added that the geopolitical situation in the last few months has had a significant impact on various sectors, such as the economy and politics, in Indonesia.

For that reason, she expressed the hope that Indonesian policy makers will take the right steps in responding to ongoing global conflicts, while still prioritizing efforts to realize world peace.
