Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia welcomed the New York Declaration on the two-state solution approved by the United Nations General Assembly and emphasized the importance of UN backing in expanding global recognition to Palestine. "For Indonesia, global recognition is vital to give Palestine an equal footing in the peace process," Indonesian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Vahd Nabyl A. Mulachela stated in his written remarks on Monday.
He said that Indonesia supports all steps taken at the UN level to strengthen Palestinian recognition by nations, including by endorsing the New York Declaration that has gained international approval.
"Indonesia will consistently increase its coordination with various countries and international organizations to rally support for the Palestinian national cause and the realization of a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip," the ministry spokesperson stressed.
Mulachela then highlighted Indonesia's shared position with Islamic countries during the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) extraordinary summit last August in rejecting Israeli Zionist plans to permanently occupy Palestinian territories and annex the Gaza Strip.
Indonesia is also committed to providing more humanitarian assistance for the Palestinian people in Gaza, including by evacuating injured victims from the enclave for emergency treatment if requested by the World Health Organization (WHO), he remarked.

The United Nations General Assembly on September 12 approved a draft resolution endorsing the New York Declaration on implementing the two-state solution and establishing an independent State of Palestine.
The resolution was supported by 142 countries, while 10 voted against—including Israel and the United States—and 12 abstained.
According to French President Emmanuel Macron, who co-sponsored the resolution with Saudi Arabia, the voting result for the New York Declaration is historic, as a majority of UN member states supported it.

The declaration includes a comprehensive roadmap to achieve a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, the release of hostages and prisoner exchanges, and the complete withdrawal of Zionist troops. According to the declaration, Gaza and the West Bank will be united under the Palestinian Authority through a provisional administration.
The UN document recommends the establishment of a UN Stabilization Mission to protect civilians, strengthen the Palestinian security apparatus, and guarantee security. Through the declaration, UN member states also called for full access for humanitarian assistance, recovery of basic services, and funding for UNRWA.
