Jakarta (ANTARA) - Commission IX of the House of Representatives (DPR) ensured that the bill on manpower remains a priority for deliberation to create a more just and inclusive labor ecosystem for workers.
"This is one of the priorities of Commission IX to be completed in legislation," Deputy Chair of Commission IX Putih Sari said in the first meeting of the bill's working committee here on Tuesday.Nevertheless, she underscored that the commission does not want to rush the completion of the draft law, which has been included in the 2025-2026 Priority National Legislation Program, as it is seeking more input from various parties, including trade unions.
"We probably will invite representatives from labor unions again because a more in-depth analysis is needed for what has been proposed," she remarked.
Sari explained that the first step taken by the Legislative Body is holding the first working committee meeting on Tuesday, with at least 20 trade unions and labor confederations involved.
The topics and input raised by trade unions included decent wages, protection for vulnerable workers, layoff prevention, and severance pay for those affected by layoffs, as well as the elimination of the outsourcing system.

Earlier, DPR Speaker Puan Maharani emphasized that the draft law on manpower is aimed at presenting a more comprehensive, fair, and adaptive regulation by creating a balance between workers' protection and business certainty, as well as integrating Constitutional Court rulings.

"The bill on manpower is drafted with the goal of providing legal certainty and protection that are fairer for workers, as well as providing space for businesses to continue to grow," she said on Monday.
She affirmed that in the deliberations of the bill, the DPR will integrate Constitutional Court rulings, including regarding wage protection and social protection for both formal and informal workers.
