Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Domestic Policy Strategy Agency (BSKDN) of the Home Affairs Ministry urged regional governments to be more responsive in addressing the dynamic issue of unemployment. "Global economic dynamics, shifting labor market structures, and technological advancements require us to continuously adapt and improve the quality of our policies," BSKDN Head Yusharto Huntoyungo said in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He noted that unemployment is not merely a matter of statistical data but a reflection of development challenges that directly impact public welfare. Therefore, policy responses must be swift, accurate, and based on real-world needs.

He emphasized that regional governments play a strategic role as the front line in designing and implementing policies to tackle unemployment.

With their better understanding of the local characteristics and potential, regional governments are expected to be able to create more accurate solutions.

Huntoyungo also stressed the importance of innovation in addressing employment challenges. In this regard, regions are urged to continuously innovate to create jobs, enhance human resource quality, and strengthen partnerships with the business and industrial sectors.

"In such challenging times, regions that can innovate will have the advantage of creating relevant and impactful solutions," he asserted.

The BSKDN head reminded that every policy and program must be results-oriented and deliver a tangible impact for the community, rather than merely meeting administrative targets.

Furthermore, a data-driven approach is deemed vital for ensuring that policies are accurately targeted.

Additionally, he called on regional governments to build cross-sector collaboration, noting that addressing unemployment requires the involvement of various parties, including those from the education sector, the private sector, and the wider community.

According to data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS), Indonesia's Open Unemployment Rate (TPT) stood at 4.85 percent in August 2025, down 0.06 percentage points compared to August 2024.
