Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Development Planning Ministry stressed the need to accelerate the digitalization of various industrial sectors to achieve the target of 12 to 13 percent of the digital economy’s contribution to Indonesia’s GDP.“We need to continue accelerating the growth of the domestic digital ecosystem, considering the set target of 12 to 13 percent of the digital economy’s GDP contribution by 2029,” the ministry’s Deputy Secretary for Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation Rolly Rochmad Purnomo said here on Tuesday.
Digitalization must be accelerated, particularly in the creative industry, MSMEs, trade, finance, education, health, agriculture, transportation, energy, and digital media.
“We must work together on this," he emphasized.
Based on the government’s data, the digital economy currently contributes 6.8 percent to national GDP.
With a digital transaction value (GMV) equivalent to Rp1,645 trillion in 2025, the digital sector is no longer a complementary industry, but rather a key pillar of the country's economy, Purnomo stated.
Referring to the 2025-2045 National Long-Term Development Plan (RPJMN), he said that digital transformation plays a highly strategic role as a driver of economic transformation and government governance.

The RPJMN mandate is further detailed, directing the acceleration of digital transformation implementation, which is based on three main pillars: the Digital Economy and Society, Digital Infrastructure and Connectivity, and Digital Government—or strengthening digital-based bureaucratic reform.
The digital economy has contributed significantly to the Indonesian economy over the past few years.
"Indonesia's GMV in 2025 was recorded at US$99 billion and is projected to surge sharply to US$340 billion by 2030. It will consistently grow in double digits, driven by the dominance of e-commerce and online media," he said.

Purnomo emphasized that Indonesia has a foundation for a digital ecosystem that continues to grow and develop.
Currently, there are 235 million internet users in Indonesia. This is supported by the 142.57 percent increase in 5G signal expansion, which is further enhanced by a surge in fixed broadband speeds, which have now reached 51.84 Mbps.
"The widespread 5G infrastructure provides a solid foundation for a growing digital business ecosystem," Purnomo concluded.
