Jakarta (ANTARA) - The quality of drinking water prepared to support Independence Day events at the new national capital (IKN) is better than bottled water (AMDK), acting head of the Nusantara Capital City Authority (OIKN), Basuki Hadimuljono, said.He tried drinking water from the Sepaku Drinking Water Treatment Plant (IPA) at IKN, East Kalimantan, on July 20, 2024.

"The water quality from IPA is according to standard, even better than bottled drinking water," Hadimuljono, who is also serving as the Public Works and Public Housing Minister, said at a press conference on Thursday.

The supply of drinking water has been channeled to the State Secretariat environment, including the Presidential Palace and Garuda Palace at IKN, he informed.

The preparation of the water supply at IKN involved testing drinking water flow from the Sepaku intake to the reservoir at IKN, located 16 kilometers away, and then to the plots of the Coordinating Ministry Offices 1–4, situated 22 kilometers away.

Hadimuljono also asked state-run inspection company Sucofindo to retest the drinking water at the plots to ensure that the water quality is unchanged compared to the IPA.

"Every plot must have its drinking water tested, or the water quality. It may be carried out on August 10–11. I will ask Sucofindo to test it," he informed.

Hadimuljono emphasized that the drinking water supply at IKN is ready ahead of Indonesia's 79th Independence Day ceremony. In a video released by his office, the minister was seen conducting a direct test of the drinking water. He took the water from the tap in a glass and immediately drank it.

The OIKN reported that the clean water supplied at IKN is safe to consume directly from the tap. A portable water management system is also being used to ensure that the water is safe for direct consumption by the public.
