Land bank key for three million homes program, says minister

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas Maruarar Sirait has said that the land bank is one of the main requirements for supporting the implementation of the Three Million Houses Development Program."The land bank is an important key for the success of the Three Million Houses Program set by President Prabowo Subianto," he underlined here on Thursday.

Therefore, he said that his side will coordinate with a number of parties to obtain lands that can be used immediately for constructing residential housing.

According to Sirait, the lands can be secured from government agencies, local governments, and the private sector.

He informed that his ministry has held meetings with a number of government agency heads to obtain data and information on land availability and lands that can be used by the ministry for home construction.

He added that his ministry is striving to get land for free for the program. One of the ways to achieve this is to use confiscated land that has passed the fix and clear stage so that the housing development process can run smoothly.

"We have coordinated (with other parties) to get the data on the land that can be used," he said.

He explained that land allocations can be obtained from the Attorney General's Office, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), the Indonesian Military (TNI), the National Police (Polri), state-owned enterprises (SOEs), local governments, and the private sector.

"As much as possible we want to get the land for free because it will be used for (the development of) people's houses," Sirait said.

In addition, to support the three million homes program, his ministry will prioritize mutual cooperation and prepare a legal basis for utilizing existing land for house construction.

He said he expects the related regulations that will be issued later to integrate all stakeholders in the housing sector.
