Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto has said that the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) is an important forum for determining ways to deal with global challenges, which are becoming increasingly complex.

At the 19th Session of the PUIC Conference at the Parliamentary Complex, Jakarta, on Wednesday, which was streamed online on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel, he said that in the midst of global polarization, the PUIC is becoming more relevant.

"This union of Muslim countries was born from a shared awareness that the Muslim world needs a forum for togetherness between parliaments in facing global challenges and to defend the interests of Muslims everywhere," he expounded.

He then praised the PUIC, adding he hopes that it will serve as a bridge of parliamentary diplomacy that bolsters solidarity between Muslim countries, promotes justice, and offers solutions to complex problems at the global level.

According to Prabowo, collaboration between the parliaments of Muslim countries is a strategic tool to encourage a more just and peaceful world order.

The President also expressed his pride in the trust given to Indonesia to host the 19th PUIC Session.

"Today, I am speaking with representatives of one-fourth of the world's population. You are all representatives of all Muslims from Muslim countries in the world," he said.

This year, Indonesia is hosting the 19th PUIC Session, with events scheduled from May 12 to 15.
