Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government is committed to strengthening social security for workers, particularly in the digital sector. This initiative was discussed in a meeting between the Ministry of Manpower and the International Social Security Association (ISSA), held on the sidelines of the 113th International Labour Conference (ILC) in Geneva, Switzerland, on Tuesday.

Deputy Minister of Manpower Immanuel Ebenezer Gerungan and ISSA Secretary General Marcelo Abi-Ramia Caetano described the meeting as a strategic step toward expanding social protection for digital platform workers, who play an increasingly vital role in Indonesia’s economy.

In an official statement, Gerungan emphasized that the government, under President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, is committed to protecting all workers, including those in informal and gig economies.

"We want to ensure that every worker, formal or informal, has fair access to social security," he said.

Gerungan also stressed that collaboration with ISSA is crucial for reforming Indonesia’s social security system to make it more inclusive and adaptable. He added that the meeting offered an opportunity to seek ISSA’s support for institutional and technical improvements in Indonesia’s social protection framework.

"We view ISSA as a strategic partner in building a robust social protection system, especially for informal and self-employed workers who remain underserved," Gerungan said.

Established in 1927, ISSA is a global association under the International Labour Organization (ILO) comprising social security institutions from various countries.
