Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Ministry of Defense has established defense cooperation with the Belarusian military.

The collaboration was marked by a meeting between Indonesian Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and Chief of the General Staff and First Deputy Minister of Defense of the Republic of Belarus, Major General Pavel Nikolaevich Muraveyko, in Belarus on July 28.

According to an official press release on Wednesday, the meeting covered various plans for military cooperation, ranging from joint exercises to the development of primary weapon system technology.

"The meeting discussed defense cooperation, particularly in the development of the defense industry, military education and training, and technology exchange," Head of the Defense Information Bureau of the Defense Ministry's General Secretariat, Brigadier General Frega Wenas Inkiriwang, stated when confirmed in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Inkiriwang noted that both sides also discussed Indonesia's participation in MILEX-2025, an International Exhibition of Arms and Military Machinery held in Belarus. He described the invitation as a gesture of appreciation for the strong ties between the Belarusian and Indonesian militaries.

He confirmed that Indonesia will send representatives to participate in the international exhibition.

"Indonesia's participation, through its accredited Defense Attaché to the Russian Federation and Belarus, is expected to open the door to strengthening defense industry cooperation, particularly in the areas of technology transfer, weapons system development, and increasing national industrial capacity," he remarked.

Furthermore, this collaboration is also expected to strengthen bilateral relations between Indonesia and Belarus.
