Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Chairman of Commission I of the House of Representatives (DPR), Dave Laksono, stated that the DPR supports and will monitor Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) in implementing voluntary civilian security forces (Pam Swakarsa).
"We continue to support it and will also make corrections if we deem it was problematic," Laksono said at the DPR/MPR building complex in Jakarta on Wednesday.
He stated that Indonesia's security and defense system has always been people-based and it opens up opportunities for the people to participate in efforts to maintain national security.
Laksono also believed that Pam Swakarsa was appropriate to be implemented to create a safe situation following the anarchic actions occurred in recent days. Through Pam Swakarsa, he hopes that the authorities and the public can collaborate to maintain national security stability.

Meanwhile, the Head of TNI Information Center (Kapuspen), Brigadier General Freddy Ardianzah said TNI engage the public to participate in Pam Swakarsa.
"It was not an order, just a suggestion or invitation, because it was proven effective in several areas," he said when confirmed in Jakarta on Wednesday.

During this activity, TNI invited all elements of society, both community organizations (ormas) or individuals. Despite involving the community, he emphasized that civilian involvement was not intended to replace the role of the officer in maintaining regional security. He assured that communities involved in regional security efforts will remain under the coordination of TNI and Polri.
