Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia on Wednesday urged its citizens in the Netherlands to stay alert as severe winter weather swept parts of Europe, saying Indonesians were safe so far despite heavy disruption to transport and daily activities.“There have been no reports of Indonesian citizens significantly affected, apart from public transportation disruptions,” the Foreign Ministry’s Directorate for Citizen Protection said in a statement issued in Jakarta.
The ministry advised Indonesians to closely follow weather updates from Dutch authorities, limit non-essential travel and immediately contact emergency services by dialing 112 in urgent situations.
According to the statement, the Netherlands’ meteorological agency KNMI issued an Orange Code warning on Wednesday for almost the entire country due to snow and icy conditions.
Only the southern province of Limburg and the Wadden Islands were placed under a Yellow Code warning, indicating a lower but still notable risk, the ministry said. ndonesia’s embassy in The Hague has stepped up monitoring, coordinated with local authorities and shared safety advisories with Indonesian nationals and diaspora communities through official channels.
The ministry urged Indonesians in the Netherlands to use embassy hotlines for assistance, including +31 6 288 60 509 for consular matters and +31 6 828 4 9252 for immigration emergencies.
“The embassy will continue anticipatory measures to ensure the safety and protection of Indonesian citizens within its jurisdiction,” the statement added.
Extreme winter weather has disrupted daily life across the Netherlands, with snow and icy roads triggering widespread delays and cancellations across national transport networks. Dutch news outlet NL Times said Wednesday marked the sixth consecutive day of snowy winter conditions and the sixth straight day of mass flight cancellations at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport.
Schiphol cancelled 718 flights on Wednesday alone as airlines struggled with icy runways, aircraft de-icing delays and reduced ground handling capacity, according to the report.
NL Times said airlines have cancelled about 3,500 scheduled flights since adverse weather began last Friday with strong winds, followed by four days of snow. By late Wednesday afternoon, 60 inbound flights scheduled for Thursday had already been cancelled, mostly operated by Dutch carrier KLM, the airport’s largest airline, NL Times reported.
An Orange Code warning is issued when dangerous weather poses a high risk of disruption, damage or serious injury, including from heavy snowfall and slippery roads.

A Yellow Code warning signals a moderate risk and calls for heightened awareness, particularly for travelers and commuters, while allowing essential activities to continue cautiously. Indonesian authorities said they would continue closely monitoring developments and provide updates if conditions worsen or citizens require assistance.
