Jakarta (ANTARA) - Foreign ministers of Indonesia and Rwanda highlighted the importance of intensifying efforts to support Palestine during their meeting in Jakarta on Thursday.
"On Palestine, we share the same views on the importance of stepping up efforts to support Palestine," said Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi after the meeting with Rwanda's Foreign Minister Vincent Biruta.
This support can be shown by pushing the two-state solution and full UN membership for Palestine, Retno stated. She said that Indonesia and Rwanda are closely monitoring developments in Gaza, including the recent ceasefire proposal, and hope that permanent peace can be restored and humanitarian aid can be delivered unhampered.
"Minister Biruta and I also agreed that the Global South needs to play a greater role in shaping the global agenda. The Global South must strengthen its unity and collaboration," she added.
For that reason, Indonesia will hold the 2nd Indonesia-Africa Forum and has invited Rwanda to join it, Retno continued. Besides exchanging views on the Palestine issue at the meeting, Biruta said that his visit to Indonesia marks an important milestone in the relations between the two countries.

He also announced the inauguration of the Embassy of the Republic of Rwanda in Jakarta on Thursday. Through the bilateral meeting that agreed on a number of cooperation agreements and the inauguration of Rwanda's embassy in Indonesia, Biruta said that he hopes that relations between the two countries can develop further and benefit their people.
