Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) has said that the candidacy of the Anies Baswedan-Andika Perkasa pair for the upcoming Jakarta gubernatorial election has yet to be discussed at the party's leadership forum.
Speaking to journalists in Jakarta on Thursday, PDIP chairperson and speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR), Puan Maharani, said that as a public discourse, the candidacy of the pair "is interesting," but it has not yet been discussed within PDIP formally.
"We have yet to discuss it at the PDIP leadership forum. But we seem to be ready (to discuss it)," she said.
Andika is a retired general and the former commander of the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI), while Anies is a former Jakarta governor who contested the 2024 Presidential Election. Andika is one of the figures that the PDIP will likely nominate for either the Jakarta or Central Java gubernatorial elections, Puan said.

The phases of the elections, such as the registration and announcement of candidate pairs for the posts of governor and vice governor, as well as district head and vice head, will commence in August.
The Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) and the National Awakening Party (PKB)-Jakarta chapter have nominated Anies as their Jakarta gubernatorial candidate. Anies lost the recent presidential race but is seeking re-election in Jakarta.
