Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Religious Affairs Ministry has announced that the first day of Dhu al-Hijjah 1446 will fall on Wednesday (May 28, 2025), making June 6 the date for Eid al-Adha celebrations this year.

During an isbat (confirmation) meeting in Jakarta on Tuesday, Religious Affairs Minister Nasaruddin Umar said that the decision was based on hilal (crescent moon) observations conducted at 114 locations across Indonesia.

He informed that the determination process nearly reached a stalemate, as no observers initially reported sighting the hilal at the elevation threshold agreed upon by the governments of Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore.

“In the final minutes, however, sworn observers in Aceh admitted to witnessing the hilal,” Umar said.

The minister expressed the hope that all Muslim communities in Indonesia will celebrate Eid al-Adha on the same date.

“We would like to appeal to the community to perform the Eid al-Adha prayer on Friday, June 6, 2025,” he said.

He reminded the public to respond to any potential differences in observance in a prudent and respectful manner.
