Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Economic Affairs Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) underscored the importance of deepening cooperation between Indonesia and Switzerland, particularly in developing green, efficient, and inclusive infrastructure.

During a bilateral meeting with Swiss Vice President and Federal Minister for Economic Affairs, Education and Research H.E. Guy Parmelin in Jakarta on Friday (Oct. 2), AHY highlighted the significant potential for synergy between the two countries in the infrastructure sector.

He pointed to Switzerland’s long-standing experience in public transport systems powered by clean energy, hydropower utilization, and modern waste management as valuable references for Indonesia’s development agenda.

The Swiss Business Hub in Jakarta has actively facilitated cooperation in recent years, including through the Swiss–Indonesia Hydropower Conference held earlier this year.

AHY said concrete steps are needed to further strengthen collaboration, particularly in infrastructure financing and clean energy development.

Parmelin reaffirmed Switzerland’s commitment to enhancing its partnership with Indonesia, noting that more than 150 Swiss companies currently operate in the country, creating thousands of quality jobs and fostering innovation.

Through the Team Switzerland Infrastructure initiative, he said Switzerland is ready to support Indonesia’s ambition to build resilient and sustainable infrastructure.

As part of the meeting, Swissmem - the Swiss industry association - and the Indonesian Electricity Society (MKI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to boost technical exchanges and explore business opportunities in the energy and electricity sector.

The bilateral meeting is expected to mark an important milestone in strengthening Indonesia-Switzerland relations while supporting the development of sustainable, efficient, and people-oriented national infrastructure.
