Jakarta (ANTARA) - A detachment of ships from the Russian Navy's Pacific Fleet arrived in Jakarta's Tanjung Priok Port on Sunday for upcoming engagements with the Indonesian Navy (TNI-AL), including joint drills.According to a written statement from the Russian Embassy in Jakarta, the ship detachment visiting Jakarta comprised the Gromky-335 corvette, Petropavlovsk Kamchatsky B-274 submarine, and Andrey Stepanov tugboat.

"A joint drill on maneuver and communication has been planned," the embassy confirmed on Sunday.

The fleet's welcoming ceremony at Tanjung Priok was attended by the Indonesian Navy's 3rd Naval Region Commander, Brigadier General Dian Suryansyah, and the Russian Pacific Fleet's Deputy Commander of Troops and Forces in Russian Northeast, Rear Admiral Evgeny Myasoedov.

Russian envoy to Indonesia Sergei Tolchenov also welcomed and later toured the arriving Russian fleet.

During the welcoming ceremony, the Indonesian and Russian sides highlighted their decades-long friendship and cooperation in the naval sector.

The two parties also reiterated their commitment "to strengthening mutual interaction to preserve peace and stability in Asia-Pacific," the Russian Embassy in Jakarta noted.

The embassy confirmed that before the joint drills, the commanders and crews of the Russian ships were scheduled for work meetings, protocol engagements, and friendly sports matches with their Indonesian counterparts.

The Russian Embassy in Jakarta also confirmed that an open ship activity, when the Russian vessels are accessible to the public, will take place on Tuesday (March 31) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jakarta time, with registration required before entry.

During the most recent engagement prior to today’s visit, Indonesia welcomed ships from Russia’s Pacific Fleet for a port visit and joint exercises in May 2025, marking the 75th anniversary of Indonesia-Russia diplomatic relations.

The participating Russian Navy vessels included the corvettes Aldar Tsidenzhapov (339) and Rezkiy (343), along with the tanker Pechenga. These ships had also taken part in the 5th Multilateral Naval Exercise Komodo (MNEK) held in Bali in February 2025.
