Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia strongly condemns the violence and abuse inflicted on volunteers of the Gaza-bound Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) humanitarian mission, who were detained by Israeli forces earlier this week.
"The Indonesian government once again reiterates its condemnation of the inhumane treatment received by the volunteers during their detention," Foreign Minister Sugiono stated here on Thursday.
Sugiono said these degrading acts constitute a violation of international law, especially when it was committed against volunteers who were carrying out a humanitarian aid for Palestinians in Gaza.
"Actions that degrade the dignity of civilians during a humanitarian mission constitute a serious violation of international humanitarian law and thus, cannot be tolerated," he said.
He further confirmed the release of all nine Indonesians volunteers who had been detained by Israel.

The Gaza flotilla volunteers were confirmed on Thursday to have been released from prison in Israel, after their ships were ambushed by Israeli forces earlier this week.
During their detention, they reportedly experienced inhumane acts, including including beatings, electric shocks and rubber bullets by Israeli authorities.
A video posted on social media even shows the Zionist regime's national security official, Itamar Ben-Gvir, insulting pro-Palestinian activists who were tied up and forced to kneel during detention.
