Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Home Affairs has asked all regional heads to boost cooperation with stakeholders in their respective regions to optimize permanent and long-term inflation control efforts.
"Please make efforts in a planned manner and continue to make these efforts permanent," said Tomsi Tohir, the ministry's acting secretary general, in a statement on Monday.
Data from Statistics Indonesia shows that the national inflation rate in June stood at 2.51 percent. While the figure was lower compared to the previous month, there were still several regions whose inflation was above the national rate. Tohir encouraged those regions to take prompt steps to reduce the inflation rate in their respective regions.
"We remind regional heads whose inflation rate is still above 2.51 percent to really understand what products or goods are causing inflation to rise," he added.
Tohir also warned regional heads to control the prices of several commodities that have the potential to affect inflation, including garlic, cooking oil, and Indonesian kretek cigarettes. He also asked them to make careful calculations and anticipations to control the prices of basic needs such as rice, as in the last few years, prices have tended to increase at the end of the year.

"Hopefully, if these efforts can be made, our inflation in August can decline again," Tohir said.
He appealed to regional governments to address fertilizer issues and take steps such as timely distribution and monitoring.
