Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries is set to establish Red and White Fishing Villages (KNMP) in 35 additional locations, bringing the total to 100 sites nationwide for the 2025 fiscal year.

“We have signed the contracts, and construction can soon begin in 35 additional locations,” said Trian Yunanda, chair of the KNMP Development Coordination Team, as quoted in an official statement on Sunday.

He noted that the second phase of KNMP development is funded through a Rp859 billion (approximately US$51.4 million) state budget allocation under a multi-year contract scheme, with completion targeted for May 2026.

Yunanda urged contractors to maintain construction quality and aesthetics while strictly adhering to the project timeline. He also emphasized the importance of employing local workers to ensure that the economic benefits of KNMP development are felt directly by surrounding communities.

“For the 2026 fiscal year, we are also preparing a cluster-based development system for the KNMP,” he said.

According to Yunanda, the cluster-based KNMP program is scheduled to begin in 2026. The government is currently conducting surveys of potential locations, with hundreds of surveyors deployed in the field.

He stressed that the survey results will serve as a key foundation for accelerating more targeted development and for determining future KNMP locations.

The first phase of KNMP construction, which covers 65 locations, has currently reached an average completion rate of between 60 and 80 percent.

“We hope the construction will be completed by January so that the fishery facilities we have prepared can be immediately utilized by the community,” he added.

The Red and White Fishing Villages program is a government priority initiative aimed at transforming fishing villages and traditional aquaculture into more modern, productive, and competitive centers. The development includes production facilities and supporting infrastructure, training centers, fish markets, and hubs for micro, small, and medium enterprises.
