Minister calls on Eid homecomers to help spur village development

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions Minister Yandri Susanto urged Eid homecomers to use the momentum as a catalyst for economic revival and development, rather than just a social gathering.He conveyed this message during a discussion with journalists at a breaking-the-fast event here on Monday evening. He emphasized that the massive movement of homecomers to rural areas should be maximized to bring real and sustainable positive impacts.

“We hope that these social visits can spark optimism. Homecomers, God willing, will bring money to their villages, so local economic activities are bound to rise,” he said.

To optimize the circulation of the local economy, he encouraged migrant workers to prioritize purchasing authentic village products as souvenirs.

“Before returning to the city, we suggest buying village products as gifts. Bring them to the city, so this becomes a moment of economic revival in the villages,” he said.

Beyond the economic aspect, he also highlighted the importance of knowledge transfer from urban communities to rural communities. Homecomers living in big cities are expected to provide literacy, guidance, and solutions to various challenges in their home villages.

“At the very least, they can provide encouragement and literacy on how a village can be properly developed. City dwellers will be awaited by villagers for their experiences and the solutions they offer to accelerate collaboration,” he said.

Furthermore, he stressed that this initiative aligns closely with the Astacita missions by President Prabowo Subianto, which aims to build Indonesia from the villages.

According to him, the current development positions villages no longer as objects, but has transformed them into the main subjects of national development.
