Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chief of the National Police (Polri) General Listyo Sigit Prabowo stated on Friday that there has been a significant decline in the number of accidents during this year's Christmas and New Year holidays.

"The number of accidents has decreased significantly," he said while inspecting the KM 57 Rest Area on the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road in Karawang, West Java, according to a Polri statement issued the same day.

He urged all parties to coordinate to prevent an increase in accidents, reminding that the peak of the return flow during the year-end period is expected next week.

Prabowo also noted that there was an increase in vehicle numbers during the first peak of the homecoming flow, based on monitoring reports from the West Java Toll Road.

"The contraflow was implemented twice, and the one-way scheme was enforced 58 times on arterial (urban) routes," he said.

However, he pointed out that compared to last year, the year-end holiday traffic flow this year has been better and smoother.

Prabowo added that travel to tourist areas has increased, with more vehicles leaving Jakarta and heading toward various tourist destinations in West Java.
