Mataram, W Nusa Tenggara, July 21 (Antara) - Head of the West Nusa Tenggara plantation service H Budi Subagio said a new sugar factory would come on stream in the regency of Dompu soon this month.

"As scheduled the factory will start operation by the end of July, 2016," Budi said here on Thursday.

The factory, owned by PT Sukses Makmur Sejahtera (SMS)has gone through a test run processing 67 tons of sugar cane for ten days ending on June 29, Budi said.

"Preparation has been 100 percent completed," he said, adding the factory is expected to operate at full capacity in October this year.

The factory with a processing capacity of 5,000 tons of sugar cane per day will need up to 5,000 workers, he said.

This year, 5,000 hectares of sugar plantations have been ready for harvest to feed the factory with the basic material.

Currently it has 6,087 hectares of plantation land and it would be expanded to be able to feed a factory with a sugar production capacity of 3,000 tons per day.
