Jakarta (ANTARA) - Sports can serve as a medium to address bureaucratic issues among institutions, as it can prompt better discussions in a leisurely, relaxed setting, according to Social Affairs Minister Tri Rismaharini.

Rismaharini delivered the statement during the opening of a table tennis tournament hosted as part of the commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the Development Finance Comptroller (BPKP). "In an informal and relaxed activity like this, we can address bureaucratic issues and focus on the communication (method), given that we are always resolving issues in a formal way," the minister stated at the BPKP office here on Tuesday.

The minister pointed out that several aspects ended up going unnoticed due to the formal approach being constantly followed to communicate and resolve issues. Rismaharini drew attention to the fact that it was the second time that she was part of the BPKP's anniversary commemoration. The minister lauded them for putting in efforts to host a positive activity that can bring together ministries and institutions. "This is one of the many ways by Mr Ateh (Head of BPKP) to make the situation more relaxed," she stated.

Rismaharini said that her relations with BPKP were established way back when she was the mayor of Surabaya and had been well-maintained ever since. "We are close to the BPKP, so when there are little errors, such as administrative mistakes or different perception, then those can be resolved immediately," she noted.

BPKP Head Muhammad Yusuf Ateh stated that the anniversary serves as a momentum for them to improve and maintain financial accountability as well as support Indonesia's development.

"There needs to be synergy, collaboration, and one perception. Once the situation is more relaxed, like what Mrs (Rismaharini) said, it feels more convenient to maintain them. No hindrance, easier for us to pursue it. Hopefully, it can always be like this, and the activities in ministries can go accordingly, so they can uphold their responsibilities until the end of year," Ateh remarked.
