Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Air Force's new C-130 J Super Hercules aircraft, bearing tail number A-1340, took off for Jordan on its inaugural mission to facilitate the distribution of Indonesian humanitarian aid to Palestinian people in Gaza.

Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) General Agus Subiyanto sent off the aircraft, manned by 27 personnel, at the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, Jakarta, on Friday.

In his speech, Subiyanto urged the assigned officers to exert their utmost efforts to ensure the success of the mission that reflects the Indonesian government and people's trust in the military institution.

"I want you to carry out this noble duty with a genuine sense of responsibility. You must prioritize security factors and run all procedures in a careful manner," he told the soldiers during the send-off ceremony.

The commander also called on the officers to establish intensive coordination with relevant parties and report every development to ensure the success of the mission. Under the mission, the TNI is seeking to reach Jordan by the Super Hercules aircraft to deliver assistance in the form of equipment for conducting aerial delivery, including 900 personnel parachutes and 50 cargo parachutes.

General Subiyanto noted that a single personnel parachute can drop 100 kilograms of loads, while a cargo parachute can drop loads of 15 tons. The equipment will  be used by the Jordanian Air Force to distribute Indonesian humanitarian aid, prepared by the National Alms Agency (Baznas), to Gaza using the airdrop method.
